Ingredients:

  • 1 cup powdered milk
  • 2 ½ tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon semolina
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon clarified butter
  • 7-8 tablespoons milk
  • ¼ teaspoon red food color
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • Mawa (reduced dry milk powder) for coating

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the powdered milk, all-purpose flour, semolina, baking powder, clarified butter, milk, and red food color. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Divide the dough into small balls.
  3. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  4. Fry the balls in the hot oil until they are golden brown.
  5. In a separate pan, combine the sugar, water, and cardamom pods. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the sugar syrup thickens.
  7. Add the fried balls to the sugar syrup.
  8. Cover the pan and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the balls are soft and syrupy.
  9. Remove the balls from the sugar syrup and let them cool.
  10. Coat the balls with mawa.
  11. Serve the kalo jam warm or cold.
