Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chana dal (Bengal gram)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the chana dal in water until the water runs clear.
  2. Soak the chana dal in water for at least 6 hours, or overnight.
  3. Drain the chana dal and rinse it again.
  4. Add the chana dal to a pot and cover it with water.
  5. Bring the chana dal to a boil over medium heat.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the chana dal is soft.
  7. Drain the chana dal and set it aside.
  8. In a bowl, combine the salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and garam masala powder.
  9. Add the chana dal to the bowl and toss to coat.
  10. Add the cilantro, mint, and lemon juice.
  11. Toss to combine.
  12. Serve the kacha chana immediately.
